El medio geográfico en el que se desarrolló la civilización griega incluía tres regiones
bien diferenciadas, pero unidas por el mar Egeo:
La Grecia europea, que ocupa el sur de la península balcánica. En esta región tuvieron

las personas libres que no podían pagar sus deudas, los prisioneros de guerra y
sus descendientes. Empezaron realizando los trabajos más duros, pero después se
convirtieron en el grupo más numeroso y se hicieron cargo de casi todas las tareas.
